Inspired by MaCenna’s industrial décor video, I created copper pipe candle holders to complement the copper accents in our living room. Using copper pipe, fittings, and a pipe cutter, I cut the pipe to size and assembled the pieces to make a sturdy candle holder base and uprights to hold taper candles. With some Liquid Nails to secure the fittings, these DIY copper candle holders add a warm, handcrafted touch to our fireplace mantel.
I was watching MaCenna’s industrial décor video and she showed these pipe candle holders. Our living room has tons of industrial touches, and while we have lots of iron pipe and iron accents, we didn’t have a lot that tied in the copper brackets we are using to hold up our theater components. Taking this idea but using copper pipe instead seemed like a perfect fit. I’ve linked her video right here in case you also love industrial décor like we do!
I didn’t really come up with much of a design beforehand, but we headed off to the hardware store to get pipes, fittings, and a pipe cutter. If you are also planning to do this project, I have three recommendations for this part of the project. One, while you’re at the hardware store, double-check that your fittings fit over the pipe, as some of the fittings I found weren’t designed to fit that way. The other is, if you are buying a pipe cutter for the first time, get a large one. This was advice from my husband, and my arms were very thankful for it. We got this pipe cutter that can handle a range of diameters for other projects, but having the bigger body and handle was key. Basically, it will give you more leverage for moving the cutter around the pipe, which is something you will have to do a lot. Finally, go ahead and get some Goo Gone if you don’t already have it. There are a lot of stickers.

Here’s the first candleholder, just doing some dry fitting and testing to see if my idea for the side pieces would be stable. The next steps were to remove all the stickers, and then use Liquid Nails to glue any fittings that were loose. I do want to note that you should always keep an eye on any lit candles and make sure the pieces holding the candles upright are really stable.
I am so happy with how this project turned out! It was a pretty simple DIY that only took an hour or so, but the candleholders look really nice and add a warm industrial touch to the fireplace!
