Modern mauve laundry room

Eight weeks in, I’m not sure if I’m more proud of myself for keeping up with the blogging or for getting this room as complete as it is! I learned so much, and I’m so happy with how bright and fresh this laundry room feels now.

Here is where this laundry room started! The cabinets were dark, there was a ton of clutter, and overall the room didn’t have the functionality it needed for folding and hanging laundry. Plus, the whole room didn’t have much personality going for it.

Here’s the mockup I designed in SketchUp – so let’s see how the final room turned out!

The little accents of brass in this room felt so key for me. I tried to keep the lines of the brass elements really clean to bring that modern feel to the room. Also, Moxxi had to check out all the finishing touches!

This countertop, backsplash, and cabinet color combination is so gorgeous to me. The visible grain in the countertop and the solid metal trim contrasting the soft gray surface turned out better than I could have imagined. There’s subtle texture in here with the faux grasscloth and the macramé, and the mauve is one of my favorite colors I’ve used in a while!

Due to some refinishing hiccups and the general state of the supply chain, these cabinets won’t have doors until late December. That said, the view with the doors off is pretty cute! We added these Minimalist Laundry labels by Talented Kitchen (affiliate link) to the paulownia wood boxes now that we’ve had a few weeks to use the laundry room with this setup and found it worked well for us.

I polished up our vintage pocket change dish to brighten it up like the other brass elements in the room. This corner moment is the perfect mix of practical and pretty for our day-to-day life.

Here is the light that started it all – the Celine fixture in mauve from Illuminate Vintage. With its four small LED globes, it really brightens up the room, and the brass and black details tie into the rest of the metallic elements. When a room is this small and you want to keep it bright and light, you have to make each element really pop. This fixture does that, and sets that modern and fun tone for the room.

Now, when you’re walking up the stairs or into the laundry room, you are greeted by this clutter-free view. I wanted to keep all the cleaning tools still accessible, but moving them to the side wall makes so much of a difference! I hunted for a long time for the perfect rug for this room, since it was just slightly too small for a 3’x5’ standard size rug. This ivory and black rug from Safavieh’s Himalaya collection in 2’3”x4’ was just what the room needed. I like having more off-white and ivory tones in here versus a bright white that would have clashed with the more natural tones, and the bold black pattern ties in the other black details in the room.

This counter is really deep, with enough room to store things for easy access and a generous folding surface. And seriously, I cannot get over the grain in this Koskisen countertop. I am so glad CaraGreen was able to get me this material quickly – working with them was great!

Here you can see the hanging station in action. Having a few hangers close to hand and the swing-out rack for hanging clothes as they come out of the dryer will make it much easier to get hanging clothes ready to put away. It also doubles as a convenient steaming station.

Just because they’re cleaning supplies doesn’t mean they can’t be cute! The accordion rack to hold all the various cleaning implements snugs right up under the mailbox we are using as a trashcan to hold lint. I wanted to use what we had here, so I just added faux leather ties to hang our existing broom, dustpan, and lint trap cleaner.

To give the trashcan a little personal flair, I cut this “Dust Bunnies” phrase out of gold adhesive vinyl using my Silhouette Cameo. It’s a small detail, but really adds something special. Plus, it was really easy!

This cord organization system is definitely not flashy, but being able to open the door fully and not have to deal with a tangle of cords is one of those invisible updates that will make a huge difference in how useful this room is.
