A small room with a big impact

This is the second week of the Spring 2023 One Room Challenge. This is my third time doing the ORC and I’m so excited to share this project with you!

All the guest participant links can be found on the One Room Challenge blog! You can also visit the week 2 link up page directly. This is an awesome event where everyone supports each other and has a great time working towards their own goals in these 8 weeks, so I hope you check out lots of participants!

The update for this week focuses on the water closet – you can see the before shot here. This is a space we don’t have to tweak a lot of function in, although we are moving the toilet paper holder from being across this somewhat long, narrow space from the toilet. What we have done though, is add a big burst of style.

I love bold wallpaper in general, whether the space is small or large. Because this room is small, though, I thought a wallpaper worked especially well to add as much impact as possible. Since this room is separated from the shower, I wasn’t concerned about the impact of steam – we had a similar setup with wallpaper in a room adjacent to the shower at our last house and it held up really well.

I feel like the water closet is really transformed now. It feels bigger to me because my eyes are following the diamonds of flowers, and the neutral background really shifts tones throughout the day as different light hits it.

The wallpaper is Bloom Garden in the Stone colorway by FEATHR. The Pattern Collective has such an amazing selection of wallpapers, and it is a woman owned & operated textile studio which is an awesome bonus. I definitely will start there when looking for wallpaper for future projects – and knowing me, there will definitely be more wallpaper projects!

Because it’s a small space, I feel like my pictures don’t really do it justice. I will leave you this week with a few detail shots – the tonal pattern across the whole design is such a great added touch that I love. Also, this is our third project we’ve done with our wallpaper installer, and I am so glad for his eye for detail and his patience with getting everything just right!
